András Hajdú D. was born in Budapest in 1981. A graduate in English Literature (2012), he focused his academic thesis on the history and impact of American war photography. This literary and analytical background provides a unique depth to his visual storytelling.
He earned his professional photography degree in 2004 with honors from the Népszabadság Education Center (NOK). Since 2005, he has been a staff photographer for [origo], one of Hungary’s largest news portals, where he also served as the head of the photography department between 2006 and 2008.
Academic and Professional Recognition
Beyond his work in the field, András is dedicated to photographic education and industry leadership:
- Education: In 2008, he led seminars on digital photography for students at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE-TTK).
- Jury Work: In 2009, he served as a jury member for the Chachipe International Photography Competition.
- Awards: Over the years, his work has garnered twelve awards at the Hungarian Press Photo Awards. His photographs have been featured extensively in both domestic and international publications.
- Scholarships: He was twice awarded the prestigious József Pécsi Photography Scholarship (2009, 2010).
The Grand Prize Exhibition at Mai Manó House
It has become a tradition for the House of Hungarian Photographers (Mai Manó House) and the Society of Hungarian Press Photographers to organize a solo exhibition for the winner of the Hungarian Press Photo Grand Prize.
In 2012, András Hajdú D. received this prestigious honor for “the most outstanding professional achievement of 2011.” His exhibition was hosted at the Mai Manó House, showcasing a powerful collection that represents the pinnacle of contemporary Hungarian photojournalism.
