Born in Budapest in 1953, Árpád Krivánszky developed a deep respect for the natural world during frequent childhood family outings. However, photography only became his true passion later in his adult life. His journey into wildlife and nature photography was sparked by a captivating international exhibition hosted by the legendary “Nimród” Photo Club.
Today, he is an active member of the Nimród Photo Club and the International Federation of Wildlife Photography (IFWP).
Subjects and Inspiration
While his favorite subjects include landscapes, waterscapes, wild flora, and fauna, Krivánszky is equally drawn to the human element—capturing those who work in the forests, fields, and along the riverbanks. Using Canon equipment, he seeks to immortalize the “tiny miracles” of the natural world.
“Nature’s beauty and majesty are a primary source of joy for me. Nature photography is the guardian of my spiritual balance; it provides the perfect escape from the daily grind.”
Awards and Publications
Krivánszky’s work has been widely recognized both in Hungary and abroad:
- Exhibitions: Nearly 50 of his images have been exhibited in national and international competitions.
- Major Awards: He is most proud of his two second-prize awards at the national “Nature Photographer of the Year” competitions and a Special Prize at the 2000 International Nature Photo Competition in Budapest.
- Print Media: Over 250 of his nature photos have appeared in prestigious magazines such as Nimród, Nature Explorer (TermészetBúvár), and Foto Mozaik.
- Art for Spaces: Around 60 of his large-scale photographs decorate the walls of public institutions, offices, and private homes.
A Diverse Portfolio: From Wildlife to Oldtimers
Beyond the wilderness, Krivánszky has a prolific career in journalism and education. Since 2007, he has been mentoring the next generation of photographers through basic nature and creative photography courses.
His professional versatility is reflected in his extensive work in other fields:
- Transport Journalism: He has published around 600 photos documenting foreign study tours and “oldtimer” vintage vehicles for magazines like Camion Truck & Bus.
- Urban Photography: Since 2004, he has contributed over 1,000 photos (mostly event and architectural photography) to the Ferencváros local newspaper in Budapest.
The Philosophy of the Lens
For Krivánszky, the goal is simple: to capture a tiny glint of nature’s splendor as its “humble servant” and share that spark with others.
