After completing his studies in photography, he began his career as a museum photographer at the Hungarian National Gallery. Since 1979, he has been a pillar of Hungarian photojournalism, working for major publications such as <em>Magyar Mez\u0151gazdas\u00e1g<\/em>, <em>N\u00e9pszava<\/em>, and, from 1990, the leading daily <em>N\u00e9pszabads\u00e1g<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His professional excellence has been recognized with numerous prestigious awards, including several prizes at the Hungarian Press Photo Exhibitions, the <strong>Munk\u00e1csi M\u00e1rton Prize (1998)<\/strong>, and the <strong>Pulitzer Memorial Prize (2006)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>&#8220;The Eye-Man&#8221; \u2013 Reflections by Iv\u00e1n B\u00e4cher<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;For years, he has been my eyes: Mikl\u00f3s Tekn\u0151s.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more than half a decade, the weekly columns of renowned Hungarian writer Iv\u00e1n B\u00e4cher in <em>N\u00e9pszabads\u00e1g<\/em> were illustrated by Tekn\u0151s\u2019s photographs. As B\u00e4cher wrote:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;I can work with Miki Tekn\u0151s with my eyes closed; he looks for me. More importantly, he actually <em>sees<\/em>. And that is the great thing. Taking good pictures\u2014even great ones\u2014is a basic requirement at a paper like N\u00e9pszabads\u00e1g. But to see with my eyes? I don&#8217;t know which school teaches that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When we work together in a church, a pub, a mill, or a prison, I inevitably watch him work. He does so, above all, with <strong>humility and curiosity<\/strong>. A proud humility and a never-intrusive curiosity. Humility toward the craft and toward the human being standing before his lens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mikl\u00f3s has been bringing in the material every single day for decades, fulfilling the quota, grinding through the industry. He is a daily laborer for a daily newspaper, recording the &#8216;today&#8217; of every moment. And yet, he does not live or see only for today. He is a long-distance photographer. He is the greatest photographer of <strong>\u00dajlip\u00f3tv\u00e1ros<\/strong> (a historic district of Budapest), because his images radiate the soul of that neighborhood most beautifully and most faithfully.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About the District: The Bottomless Well<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>In his book <em>Megyek Bud\u00e1ra<\/em> (Going to Buda), B\u00e4cher describes the setting of Tekn\u0151s&#8217;s most iconic works:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;\u00dajlip\u00f3tv\u00e1ros is like a bottomless well from which stories can be drawn until the end of time. Thirty thousand people, thousands of houses, shops, and institutions\u2014both visible and invisible landmarks. In each large apartment complex lives a village-sized population, every single one of whose lives is a complete novel.
