Linda McCartney\u2019s Journey from Receptionist to Rock Photographer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In 1966, when Linda McCartney worked as a receptionist at Town & Country<\/em> magazine, she obtained a press pass to attend an exclusive introduction of the Rolling Stones aboard a yacht on the Hudson River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her candid and unconventional photographs of the band proved far more dynamic than the restrained images produced by the group\u2019s official photographer. The photographs immediately attracted attention and launched her career as a successful rock\u2019n\u2019roll photographer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Historic Rolling Stone Cover<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

On May 11, 1968, her portrait of Eric Clapton appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone<\/em> magazine. With this publication, she entered the record books as the first female photographer to have her work featured on the magazine\u2019s cover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Photographing the Icons of the Rock Era<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

By the late 1960s, Eastman had become one of the leading photographers of the music scene. Through her lens she captured many influential figures of rock and popular music, including Aretha Franklin, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Simon & Garfunkel, The Who, The Doors, and the Grateful Dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

London and the \u201cSwinging Sixties\u201d<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In 1967 Linda traveled to London to document the cultural atmosphere of the \u201cSwinging Sixties.\u201d During this period she met Paul McCartney at the Bag \u2018o Nails Club. She later photographed the Beatles as well, including during the dinner celebrating the release of the Sgt. Pepper\u2019s Lonely Hearts Club Band<\/em> album.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Life with Paul McCartney<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Linda and Paul fell in love and were married on March 12, 1969.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the following three decades, until her early death, she devoted her life to her family, vegetarianism, animal rights, and photography. Her photographic work remained an important visual record of the music and culture of the 1960s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
